Beyond the financial and academic questions covered in our general parent's guide, this post focuses specifically on safety and legitimacy verification the questions that matter most when your child will be spending significant time, in person or online, with a training provider you may not be familiar with.
Check for a physical, verifiable address not just a listed city, but an actual office location you could look up independently. Search for the company's registration status and how long it's been operating. Look for consistent information across the company's website, Google Business listing, and any social media presence significant inconsistencies (like conflicting phone numbers or addresses) are worth asking about directly.
If your child will attend in-person sessions, ask about: the specific office location and whether you can visit or verify it, session timing (particularly for evening sessions, given travel safety considerations), and whether the environment includes other students and staff present, not a one-on-one arrangement without oversight.
For online programs, ask about: how sessions are conducted (live video calls, which platform), whether sessions are recorded and who has access to those recordings, and what personal information is collected and how it's used or stored.
A large number of reviews isn't automatically meaningful look at the specific content of reviews for details that suggest genuine experience (specific project types, specific mentor interactions) rather than generic praise that could apply to any company. Our guide on reading reviews and testimonials critically covers this in more depth.
1. Can I visit your office, or speak with someone by phone before my child enrolls?
2. What happens if my child needs to pause or discontinue the program partway through?
3. Is there a written agreement or terms document I can review before payment?
4. Who specifically will be mentoring my child, and what's their background?
Before paying, a reasonable process might include: reviewing the company's online presence and reviews, having a direct phone or in-person conversation with the provider (not just relying on a sales chat), confirming certificate acceptance with your child's college directly, and reviewing the complete fee breakdown and any written terms before making payment.
We understand that trusting a company with your child's time and your money requires genuine verification, not just marketing claims. We're glad to answer direct questions from parents, provide documentation, and support any reasonable verification process before you commit.
